Calling all sleuths! Get together with other mystery readers as we discuss crime novels every third Thursday of the month. This month, we will discuss The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James. You are welcome to join us even if you have not finished the book. Place a hold on the title through the library’s catalog.
Whether you’ve got a stack of published works or have just casually considered writing, we’d love for you to join us. It’s a casual, come-as-you-are space to bounce ideas around, get encouragement to keep going, and vent about formatting headaches and characters who just won’t behave. We meet on the second Tuesday of the month from 6 – 7:30 pm. No prep needed, just bring whatever you’re working on (or nothing at all). This event is for Ages 16+.
Step into the Creation Station and build a monster that actually moves! You’ll learn the engineering tricks that turn static models into moving creatures. Using a mix of everyday materials and mechanical parts—like hidden cams, cranks, and linkages—you’ll design, build, and animate a custom build from the ground up. See how simple rotations transform everyday items into a thrashing mechanical monster. Part monster lab, part engineering studio, you hold the power to bring your beast to life. Craft supplies and available seating in the Makerspace is reserved for registered participants only. This event is for ages 11 to 14 Registration for this tween program opens on September 22nd.
This talk explores highlights from the Detroit Institute of Arts’ American art collection, spanning 1770 to 1920. Through paintings and sculptures viewed within their historical and cultural contexts, participants will discover how American artists responded to a changing nation, from the colonial era through the early decades of the twentieth century.
Our parking lot will be partially closed beginning Tuesday, September 8 for some much-needed updates, weather permitting. On Tuesday, the east half of the parking lot and the entrance closer to 12 Mile Rd will both be closed to be re-blacktopped and striped. The other half of the lot will be closed and updated soon after. The public will be able to park in half the lot at all times but please note space will be much more limited than usual. If you find the lot full, we recommend parking in the north lot by the Fire Station during City Hall hours (Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm) when you can enter the Library through the City Hall lobby. When City Hall is closed, you may prefer to park on Kelly Road since only our main entrance will be open. Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience.
